(DENI) is a project developed by the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) and Protection Approaches (PA) that gathered stakeholders from all over the world to (re)imagine how school-based practices and policies can contribute to more respectful, inclusive, and resilient societies.
This initiative was born out of the concern regarding the rise of identity-based violence, mass atrocities, and democratic backsliding — and the conviction that education is a fundamental part of the solution to these issues. As part of this effort, AIPG and PA held a global conference between 16-21 November 2021 in which a group of 25 education experts discussed the twelve-working papers developed for the conference by academics, public officers, and practitioners, following the four main themes of this initiative: knowledge, attitude, and skills (competencies); classroom-based strategies and methodologies; school culture and connections with the wider community; and educational policies and planning. Through the lens of diverse local perspectives, the conference was a rich opportunity to reflect on these central themes, exchange best practices, and pave the way for global collaborations and upcoming projects.
As a result, the project team will launch a report that brings together the key outcomes, as they emerged from the conference, through a launch event in April 2022. The document will have versions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French, living up to the global "spirit" of the conference. "A Educação Democrática Precisa de Imaginação" (DENI, sigla em inglês) é um projeto desenvolvido pelo Instituto Auschwitz para a Prevenção de Genocídio e Atrocidades Massivas (AIPG) e a organização não-governamental britânica Protection Approaches (PA) que reuniu atores de todo o mundo para (re)imaginar como práticas escolares e políticas educacionais podem contirbuir para sociedades mais respeitosas, inclusivas e resilientes.
Esta iniciativa nasceu de preocupações associadas com o atual aumento da violência identitária e das atrocidades massivas e da convicção na educação como uma parte fundamental da solução para essas questões. Como parte desse esforço, o Instituto Auschwitz e a Protection Approaches realizaram uma conferência global entre os dias 16 e 21 de novembro de 2021, na qual um grupo de 25 especialistas em educação debateram os doze papers desenvolvidos para a conferência por acadêmicos, funcionários públicos e profissionais de educação tendo em vista os quatro temas principais desta iniciativa: conhecimento, atitude e habilidades (competências); estratégias e metodologias de sala de aula; cultura escolar a conexão com a comunidade; e políticas públicas e planejamento educacional.
A partir de diversas lentes locais, a conferência foi uma rica oportunidade para refletir sobre esses temas centrais, trocar melhores práticas e reunir um grupo de especialistas para pavimentar caminhos para colaborações globais e projetos futuros. Como resultado, a equipe do projeto irá lançar um relatório que reúne os principais resultados, à medida que surgiram na conferência, por meio de um evento de lançamento virtual em abril de 2022. O documento terá versões em inglês, espanhol, português e francês, fazendo jus ao "espírito" global da conferência.
