Warren Educational Policies Program
One of the most inspiring stories that the Warren Educational Policies Program (WEPP) has experienced occurred after the pilot launch of the online training for teachers and educational professionals of the project "Citizenship and Democracy in School" in Brazil in February 2021. Among the nearly 600 applications received, one selected candidate was Wagner Dias, a geography teacher, and coordinator of the Studies and Research team at the Training of Education Professionals division in the Secretary of Education of Goiás. During the training, Wagner was "impressed with the quality and relevance of the themes" (in his own words) and contacted the Program Director to establish a partnership to make our course available to all the teachers in the State of Goiás.
This message from Wagner began a partnership between WEPP and the State of Goiás, culminating in a cooperation agreement signed that year and effective until 2024, which plans to train over 12,000 teachers. To promote Goiás' ownership of the project and its methodology, WEPP first conducted a multiplier training that would later support the online course to be hosted on the learning platform of the Secretary of Education of Goiás. Finally, to ensure that the training would adequately reflect the local needs of the state of Goiás, the division coordinated by Wagner produced an extra module adapted to the human rights education curriculum of the State of Goiás. Since then, over 1,000 teachers have already completed the training, and with excellent evaluation results, the State of Goiás plans to continue offering the course to its educators.
