Conflict-related atrocity crimes, including the perpetration of war crimes, continue to be a global challenge. While international humanitarian law regulates the conduct of war or armed conflict, and is the subject of much traditional security sector compliance training, the Conflict-Related Atrocity Crimes Prevention training program aims to complement this training by effectively institutionalizing the prevention of conflict-related atrocity crimes across all phases of the conflict cycle.

This unique online course designed for ministries of defense and security forces, provides an overview of the concepts of genocide, mass atrocities, armed conflict, and prevention in week one. The remaining four weeks of the course are structured around legal frameworks for atrocity crimes prevention, atrocity crimes risk analysis, understanding the psychological processes by which ordinary people commit atrocity crimes, and an applied analysis of prevention strategies for conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence (CR-SGBV). This training is currently offered in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese to security sector personnel both globally, as well as regionally across Africa and Latin America. AIPG continues to engage with course participants once they have completed the training, providing support and technical assistance to further the implementation of the training in their day-to-day work.

Security sector personnel play a vital role in safeguarding populations most at-risk for atrocity crimes. As the risks of atrocities continue to grow worldwide, the need for advanced training for security sector personnel has become more critical. This course will not only provide expert training on war crimes prevention but will also allow you to connect and develop invaluable networking and collaborative relationships with previous alumni across a plethora of different security sector organizations and receive access to continuing education material. All participants that complete the course will receive a signed certificate of completion.
